The name of this wine derives from the malice of some French Popes: in fact, at the time there were seven Popes that lived in Avignon, and during this period they decided to build the Chateauneuf du Pape, situated in the North of the town. At the beginning, this castle was considered a summer residence, but little by little the Popes began to cultivate vineyards. This wine owns an aromatic complexity, with an intense ruby red colour, at the same time deep, while the smell reveals fruited hints of mature red fruit and jam, spices. Endowed with full tannins, balance and richness, this wine is excellent if drunk together with salami, red meats, game and cheeses. Furthermore, this wine owns a particular, but great capacity of aging.
