The Massetino represents the so-called "second wine" of Tenuta Masseto, although it has a precise and elegant identity of its own. It is made from a solid base of Merlot, the same grape used to produce Masseto, to which a small percentage of Cabernet Franc is added. Each individual vineyard plot is vinified separately in concrete tanks. Malolactic fermentation takes place in oak barriques, with 50% new. After the first 12 months of aging, the wine is blended and reintroduced into barriques for further 3 months before bottling. On the eye, it reveals a pleasant bright ruby red color. The bouquet is wide and complex, crisp with notes of red fruits and vegetal hints. The palate is rich and full-bodied, persistent and full, with young tannins that are constantly evolving. The Massetino 2021 is ideal paired with rich first courses with meat sauces, game, slow-cooked dishes, and braised red meats.
