Chateau de Bligny is an icon of Cote des Bar: the estate is the perfect example of human improvement of the terroir. The Chateau was established by Marquis Dampierre in the XVth century and since the beginning it has been the unique chateau within the Champagne wine region. Throughout the centuries it lived both decadence and renaissance. 1999 was the turning point: the building and the whole estate were bought by Repeneau family, now the current owners. The first vineyards were bought at the beginning of the Twentieth century by Baron de Cachard, whose aim was producing and selling young and sparkling wines of the region. Over the first 30 years of the Twentieth century, the Baron bought more than 44 hectares of vineyards. The totality of the plots was inherited by the nephews but, due to the Second World War, they weren’t able to to manage the estate and the vineyards were left aside for years. The Chateau lived an inevitable decline during that period. During the Fifties the estate was then bought by Lorin family, who gave new life to the property. The real rebirth took place in 1999: Repeneau family was interested in preserve and protect the historical, architectural and wine heritage, so they acquired the whole possession. The wine production was improved thanks to huge investments and all grapes are now used to produce the local Champage. Now Repeneau family is the 7th owner of the estate.
